4DWN, located in Dallas, Texas is a 501c3 non-profit that focuses on helping the Southern Dallas area by providing a constant and safe space to get fresh food, a safe community area for free events, a place for the sustainable gardening. This project was two fold. 1) Create an app for new volunteers that allows for signup into the 4DWN database, allow new volunteers to choose availability times for on-call requests or scheduled events and to get real time updates from the Volunteer Captain and the 4DWN Volunteer Director. 2) Create a web based admin page for the 4DWN staff that shows an active database of new volunteers and current volunteers, show each day's volunteering event and coordinate with 4DWN's local partners. After the successful proposal of the volunteer app, 4DWN requested an all-in-one app. An app where users can learn about 4DWN, sign up for volunteer opportunities with 4DWN in their community garden and an e-commerce store to sell their fresh produce at an affordable price.
Before I get into the heart of my project, I do extensive research.
Journey Map of the first time user's
Service Blueprint for the 4DWN Volunteer App. This Blueprint shows the first time volunteers thought process, what technology are they using to during each thought, what's happening on 4DWN Volunteer Directors side and what tech they are using.
From my research on 4DWN, the current volunteers, the ideal new volunteer and etc, I created the user flows for the application.
User Flow - Order Pickup. This flow chart explains how the 1st time and returning users from placing the order to the post pick up feedback survey
User Flow - Buyer. This flowchart shows the 1st time user's process from downloading the app to completting an order
User Flow - Volunteer. This flow chart shows how the volunteer grower starting from recieving the order placed by the buyer to updating to app the show the order has been complete
User Flow - Volunteer - After Shift. This user flow follows Janet, a new 4DWN Volunteer's first shift in the order pickup area. It shows from when Janet starts before the 4DWN Store opens to the end when the online order placed by a customer is ready for pickup.
User Flow - Volunteer - After Shift. This user flow shows the actions of the 4DWN Volunteer at the end of their Order Pickup shift. This starts from putting all the unpicked orders away to signing out of their shift at the end of the day.
After months of research, making flowcharts I made a high fidelity prototype and presented my findings and logic for the new app.
